Lots of skills explored here. Texture, space, overlapping, painting, cutting, etc.
Glitter and Glue
When in doubt, just add glitter! I am a PreK-5 art teacher, and these are words to live by. The images on this blog are from the students I teach. I hope they inspire you. There is nothing better than art seen through a child's eye.

5th Grade ACE chalk pastel landscapes
I am really enjoying my 5th grade ACE class, they are so enthusiastic about art. ACE is for students that want to take art more seriously, and explore art concepts that may not be covered in a regular art class. Students have to apply, and if accepted, must agree to miss recess one day a week. We have been looking at landscapes by artist Wolf Khan, and talking about his use of color. Here are some of the student work that was inspired by this artist.

5th grade art displayed in superintendent's office
We were honored to hear that the superintendent asked for some artwork to be displayed in her conference room! This 5th grade project was something I saw on pinterest. These whimsical barn landscapes were inspired by NYC artist Heather Galler.

September 15th is international DOT DAY!
We are gearing up for "Dot Day"! Local author Peter Reynolds inspired us to "make a mark, and see where it takes you." We made some interesting connections with the book and Wassily Kandinsky's painting, Squares and Concentric Circles. Younger grades experimented with color with their dots. Third grade used primary colors to paint their "dots", and 4th and 5th graders used warm and cool colors. We love the message of this book!

An Exciting Start
I am so happy to be teaching at the Tucker School! Although it was sad to leave my wonderful students and friends in Watertown, it is exciting to be working in my home town. This week students explored LINE after discussing Wassily Kandinsky's paintings.

"Famous Five Artists"
The Watertown elementary art teachers received a grant to research five famous artists that all elementary students would study. Each artist has work displayed in local museums, so students can go with their families to talk about what they learned. Below is the Henri Matisse print, Beasts of the Sea, that students viewed after reading "Getting to Know the Artist: Henri Matisse". The third graders used either warm or cool colors. They also cut out a variety of organic, geometric, and free-form shapes.

Fifth Grade Pumpkins
I love these! Fifth graders experimented with value, space, and analogous (closely related) colors with these pumpkin paintings!
First Grade Kandinsky Circles
The first grade students looked at Kandinsky's Several Cirlces. We had a great discussion as the students "read" the artwork, just like they would "read" a book! They then did their own interpretation by overlapping small, medium, and large circles.
